State Department Blogs Like It’s 1999

  • Posted by: Andrew Price

Coming late to the game, the State Department started an official blog yesterday and sarcastic potshots spread in the comments like a thousand points of light.

They’re playful:

“Will Condi be posting periodically, sharing tips on diplomacy and negotiating and what not? You guys still do that, right?”

They’re incredulous:

“You have GOT to be kidding!! I’d tell you what I really think of your circa ‘99 great blog experiment, but I’m afraid of being wiretapped and put under surveillance.”

They’re practical:

“Any chance you can brighten your text? I’m straining to read it…”

They’re hilarious.

We wonder if wonky debates will flourish in the comments as the detractors get bored.

“Dipnote,” the State Department blog.

Our tech writer at the MOLI View also wrote about this blog. It is interesting to see the government take part in this form of communication.

This just seems a little ridiculous. Kind of like the kodak slideshow page for state department employees. Whats next? Photos of the company BBQ?

I wonder what kind of restrictions they have on their postings…
