Our favorite race in the upcoming midterms is the Virginia Senate Race between Allen and Webb. This is not just because George Allen is constantly plagued by problems with racism and anti-semitism. Though, for example, Salon just discovered that when Allen was a college football player, he used to say "nigger." (That the revelation that a white college football player in early 70s Virginia might have used racial epithets is newsworthy is another story).

Mostly the reason we like this race is that it's two strong candidates who legitimately disagree on policy, and aren't just nitpicking about unimportant political issues. Also, Webb has made a huge comeback to turn this into an actual race. Furthermore, Webb's son is also a Marine in Iraq, even though his father disagrees (and always has disagreed with the war). As the CJR puts it: despite the maccaca, it's a real debate of ideas. And then, also, George Allen says something racist. That makes it fun, too.
