I had never heard of GOOD until today, when some random person in the street was discussing your party and I chimed in to ask questions. I am so saddened by Brooklynpug's comment about their utter loss of faith in an entire 'scene' of people who, if nothing else, should be considered to be on the forefront of change FOR GOOD.

Of all the events GOOD could attend and all the places to promote your magazine, this is the WORST idea....drunken hipsters and wanna be musicians will only come to the event for the free drinks and swag and will never remember GOOD Magazine again or do anything for them. As someone who worked in the music industry for 25 years and made a career change to social entreprenaurship I know this is true...if you want to be hip, you are with the biggest bunch of losers around and wiil accomplish nothing...

Look at U2/ Bono and what he does, there might be one person here that could be impacted the same way. Worth the trip and exposure.

There is good and bad in everything and yes Austin does have it share of party animals being a college town.

However it does have a larger share of those who care about the environment, government and those who make contributions to the greater good.

I am honored that they chose to be at an event that attracts people from all over the world (1638 bands) and perhaps get those people (who still care about this world we live in, and yes but might drink too, as they are not mutually exclusive) to know there is another option to get information that matters and one person can make a difference.

I loved the article about the Africa merry go rounds that power running water where there is no electricity. That inspired me and could inspire others as your presence here will also.

THANKS for coming to Austin and listening..

FWIW, this event is before the music conference begins. So they will be catering to the drunken gaming/interactive geeks, not the drunken hipsters.

I have been in the music business for a good 10-12 years and while I may not have the same length of experience as you, I will say that your take on SXSW is pretty off. While it is true that most people will be drunk I think you are underestimating the indie community when you say that no one will remember GOOD afterwards. I am a GOOD subscriber, band member, record label owner and semi-pro SXSW competitive drinker and I for one wish more people would branch out like this!
