The Art of the Title Sequence

  • Posted by: Andrew Price

The people who create title sequences for movies really deserve more recognition than they get (which is none, basically). Check out The Art of the Title Sequence, a site with video and commentary for tons of movie title sequences, from 300 to Vertigo.

The site has lots to chew on. Their analysis of the title sequences from the Alien movies nicely reflects how the series lost all subtlety and suspense between 1979’s Alien and 1997’s Alien: Resurrection.

I spent some time dreaming of becoming a title sequence designer after an assignment in school.  Se7en was my favorite from class.  Interesting to watch the evolution of the then film production company who created that sequence, just a few years ago they developed the Nike+ campaign.

Bonnie Siegler and Emily Oberman of Number Seventeen in NY wrote an op-ed about giving out Oscars to best title sequence that was published on Sunday, complete with nominations for 2008 movies (go Tropic Thunder!).
