Venison is now one of the more expensive types of me, or at least for a NJ resident. I've been hunting since I was old enough and the nj wildlife game commission continue to make it cost more and more every year.It is actually cheaper to purchase an out of state PA license to harvest a buck, send in for tou doe tag plus hunt turkey all for less than a resident of the great garden state.

I know deer hunting is a must, but they are such beautiful creatures and I hate to see them killed. My old boss was a hunter for many years. One day he stood behind his rifle and couldn't do it anymore, it just hurt too much. I lived in a rural area for 9 years and oh how I loved to see the deer and doe roaming the mountain area. They were literally everywhere and the entire family would scamper across the road without warning. Last summer I went biking on the yough trail and a baby doe appeared just 3 ft. in front of my bike, of course too scared to come close, just darted away gracefully. We also hit a deer once, several years ago, a huge buck came darting out of st. joseph's cemetery and ran directly into the passenger side of the car. Needless to say, he turned directly around and darted back into the cemetary, unscaved, $2,000 in damages to the vehicle. I've only eaten venison once while I was away at college in erie, pa. It tasted sort of bitter and tough. I guess it's how you prepare it. Bowhunting sounds a little less brutal. Is it the terrain that you love or the challenge of the capture?
