The GOOD 30-Day Challenge: Get Financially Fit

This month, whether you're the 99 percent or the 1 percent, we want you to have a sound mind, sound body, and sound bank account.

Things are easier said than done, or so the old adage goes, and we couldn't agree more. That's why we do The GOOD 30-Day Challenge, a monthly attempt to live better.

In no time in history has it been more important to be financially literate. While the whole world reels from a hangover brought on by years of drunken spending—on cars, mortgages, big TVs, etc.—millions of people are stuck trying to figure out how to get out from under crushing debt, and how to ensure they don't face the same money woes in the future. Not everyone can be rich, but everyone can and should figure out how to make their money work for them. With that in mind, GOOD is here to help.

Come the start of a new year, lots of people like to promise themselves they'll get back in physical shape. We certainly support taking care of your body, but this month, for the first GOOD 30-Day Challenge of 2012, we're asking you to focus on your wallet as well as your waistline.

This doesn’t mean you need to stop spending altogether in January, nor start reading business school texts. It just means that each day this month we’ll be assigning you one task—from setting up online bill pay to creating a plan to pay off your debt—to brighten your financial future. We can’t guarantee that participating will have you rubbing shoulders with Warren Buffett by February, but we can guarantee you’ll be financially wiser and better prepared to handle your money, whether that’s dozens of dollars or millions.

As usual, consider this post an open invitation to join in the challenge. Check GOOD.is at 8:30 a.m. EST every day of January to see that day’s task and get a sneak preview of what the next day holds. On Twitter and Facebook, we’ll be using the hashtag #30DaysofGOOD to keep you abreast of our progress, and we hope you’ll use to let us know how you’re faring as well.

Now, a little music to entice you.
