On the short list of people that have an idea and actually follow through on it, meet Madeleine Sackler, a 27-year-old former freelance editor who, after watching news footage about an overcrowded school lottery, decided to make a film about it.Her feature-length documentary, The Lottery, follows four families in Harlem as they hope and pray that the luck of the draw will grant their kids a spot in a choice school. The film, which splices this narrative with commentary from big names in the education reform world-Geoffrey Canada, Cory Booker, and Joel Klein, for example-will appear in theaters come May. In the meantime, here's the trailer:[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMzt7YGxLjgSackler has also started an Education Constitution, where the "undersigned will no longer accept the current state of education in America." Hundreds have added their names. You can get on board here.Image via The Lottery Film.
