The Story Of Stuff

  • Posted by: Andrew Price
  • on December 20, 2007 at 2:15 pm

This 20-minute video by activist Annie Leonard provides a tour of our consumer economy, with all of its psychological, environmental, and public health problems.

It’s a little didactic at points. She informs us that “If everybody consumed at U.S. rates, we would need three to five planets, and you know what? We’ve only got one”. Some things also get oversimplified. She implies that fashion is just a fabrication of the clothing stores. Not so. Humans have been dressing up since civilization began.

But in the end it’s a nice overview of how thoroughly screwed the cycle of production, consumption and disposal is with an uplifting conclusion.

Thanks Jonathan!
