People have long been hoping that nanotechnology-the engineering of miniscule machines-will some day allow us to make cheap, efficient solar panels. A company called Nanosolar is at the forefront of that effort. They just released this six-minute video describing their process for printing a liquid solar cell concoction onto cheap sheets of aluminum-complete with techno-thriller soundtrack.

The Google guys are both investors in Nanosolar, for what that's worth. TreeHugger has more on the technical details. Nanosolar won't reveal their costs, so it's unclear if this is a commercial breakthrough, but it's certainly progress.
