Although he's partial to Chuck Norris movies and game film, my father are I will hunker down every so often and sample the latest blockbusters. We agree that the new Rocky was really disappointing and that Stallone should've gotten someone else to direct it. And we really wanted to love it! But, affection for Sly and the character aside, it was just weak sauce. We were also bummed out by "We Are Marshall"; not because the movie wasn't an inspirational tear-jerker that paid due respect to the tragic past and courageous present of my father's alma matter, because it was. But because we're pretty sure this rules out McConaughy playing my dad in a biopic. It would just be a little redundant.

Also, I was hoping you guys were in a position to get more enlightening writers than Thora Birch. I mean, I'm only the son of pro football player, and I was aware that there were things called film festivals that take place in different parts of the world. I'm pretty sure you're readership is refined enough that they don't need an idiot's guide. How about just talking about movies? My 2nd grade teacher, Ms. Buxton, would give this glamorized book report a "satisfactory". And although this evaluation may, by definition, be positive, Ms. Buxton means it in a much more "get this signed by your parents" kind of way.

As a respected film critic and lover of women I would have greater respect for Thora Birch’s opinion if she voted for this piece of cinematic brilliance at the Los Angeles Shorts Fest.

In an attempt to seem cultured and hip, Thora Birch says “Meet the liberal South. The audience is young, creative, passionate and a little hungover. Not what you’d expect from the heart of Red-State America.”

Mid-America and the South is not so easily typified and there is much to learn and experience. Try not being so close minded to think that the only culturally relevant things happen on the west coast or in the north east.

………..learn to take one. It’s one thing to be ‘aware’ of the existance of a liberal minded section of society in the South, it’s quite another to be smack dab in the middle of it. I prefer the later; the people aren’t as defensive or patronizing as your comments would lead one to believe.

I understand in a world where people know who Paris Hilton is, there's a tendency amoungst literate aware people to lash out at celebrity, but Ms. Birch wrote a nice piece about film festivals. Her piece is thankfully clear of the more commonly seen indie-cred cry, 'why don't more people get it'

Not everyone is a film expert, nor is reading "good" align you as such. I love movies, devour netflix and try to see the "oscar" and buzz worthy movies, and i've never heard of the Savannah Film Fest. So.. let's ease off the assault cause you've heard of Ms. Birch.
