What The President Will Inherit

  • Video by: Max Joseph , Chris Weller
  • Posted: October 31, 2008 at 10:40 am

What could be more important than the upcoming election? What the next president actually does once elected. While a feverish media dissects Palin’s wardrobe and plumbs “Joe’s” biography, real challenges for America are piling up. Domestic struggles over marriage and abortion rights will define who we are, and our response to global conflicts and crises will determine our place in a new century. The end of the campaigning is just the beginning.

So, you sure you want someone in office who agreed with Bush 90% of the time. Bush after all is a part of the problem we’re in this mess.

American people as a whole is to blame.  Sitting idly by and turning the other cheek while our leaders continue to make decisions out of greed and incompetently handle our country’s money has placed us in this situation.  How is it that Alaskans voted to keep Ted Stevens as their senator despite the fact that he was found guilty on a federal indictment of SEVEN counts of making false statements.  The man was taking kickbacks from an Alaskan Oil Company.  How is it that a former director of the CIA (Oliver North) has a TV show when he orchestrated the spread of crack into the ghettos of America while Freeway Ricky Ross rots in Prison.  How is it that we as a nation allow the war on drugs to continue despite the fact that California alone has a prison population greater than any world power? Why do we jail users instead of going after the source if we as a nation truly cared about illegal drugs.  The minds of the citizens have to be opened.  Obama, Obama, Obama unify, educate, and lead this country.

@jppaulo: Wow. Well put. I hadn’t checked on the Stevens result yet, but that’s amazing news.

I’d add one to your list of imponderables. How did we ever reach a point where being well educated and reflective diminishes your appeal as a potential leader?

We really think money grows on trees. I think that if we used Gold bars as way of payment for everything even though extremely inconvenient we would not loose sight of the value of the dollar. Why do we not teach our children about Credit and money financing in our high schools? I wondered this soon after I graduated (1 of the 68.8% that did :( sad). Credit is a scary thing and on my level is meaningless until you look at our subprime issue that has very similar lack of knowledge or realization of value of the dollar

Just because his campaign slogan is ‘change’ and he’s a black man doesn’t mean any of this issues are anywhere near on their way to a resolve.  My god we have fucked ourselves.

All this mess roots in the imperial overstrechism – the hunger to capture and consume world’s resources even if it comes at the killing of million of innocent people. Today, most of USA’s resources are gulped down by non-developmental military adventures. The downfall will continue unless the imperial withdrawl starts.
