Who Should Be Obama’s Running Mate?

  • Posted by: Patrick James

Now that Senator Barack Obama has secured the Democratic nomination for President, he needs to find a running mate. Of course, at this point, it’s far too early for us to speculate about who that person might be. However, it’s not too early for us to ask you who you’d like to see as his VP.

Notice that you can write in an “other” candidate if none of the five names below inspires you.

Webb is the perfect McCain neutralizer.

But barring Webb I’d go for Judd Apatow. He just can’t lose these days.

If one nut (McCain) requires neutralization by another, Webb is a fine choice. I think Obama can rise above that, though.

Richardson brings experience to the table with more… sanity.

Is being shot in Vietnam a prereq for the VP spot?

This election should not be about egos, it should be about what’s best for the Democratic party, and what gives them the biggest chance of winning.

Why Hillary is the best candidate to work with Obama:

    1. She has the SECOND HIGHEST SCORE in the Primaries – she lost by very little. This means she can help drive MORE VOTES FOR the DEMOCRATS so that the Democrats can be guaranteed.

    2. Complementarity: She’s experienced. He’s not. She’s seen these movies before. She knows how to navigate Washington. He has barely any experience.

    3. Do NOT piss of the women. Hillary has an overwhelming number of support from women – who comprise more than HALF

    4. PARTY UNITY. We need ALL sides represented. With Hillary and Obama together, they can reach out to a “more complete” constituent base.

    5. All the other VP candidates do NOT make sense. What are they supposed to do, be Obama’s puppet? Obama needs someone he can talk to, deliberate with, discuss with who matches (or even is better than) his intelligence.

The fact is this: despite the competition of their speeches, if they are both as smart as we know they are, they will end up liking and respecting each other.

One advice: Obama needs to keep his feisty (crazy) wife out of the Oval Office decisions, as much as Clinton needs to stay out of Hillary’s hair if and when she becomes VP.

Obama probably will pick Hillary for VP. But I can definitely understand his hesitation.

She goes against almost everything he’s built his campaign on, CHANGE. Think of the last 5 presidential terms and the possible 6th one, G BUSH – B CLINTON – B CLINTON – G W BUSH – G W BUSH -H CLINTON (VP), it’s a hard sell to his supporters.

But since the beginning Obama has also said that this isn’t about him, it’s about the people and a large amount of people would want Hill as VP, this would be the ultimate proof of that.

So it comes down to Change or For the people, I can understand his hesitation.
