Wieden+Kennedy On The Streets Of London

  • Posted by: Andrew Price
  • on November 27, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Wieden+Kennedy, who we worked with for the first issue of GOOD, have a Christmas light display up on Regent Street in London. Fourteen clusters of 3D lights hang above the street, changing according to the weather, ambient light, the surrounding crowd and a soundtrack.

The project, dubbed UNITY, is sponsored by Nokia and is supposed to comport with their “brand values” but this looks a lot more like art patronage than advertising. Are corporations the new Medicis?

Here’s the story. Video below.

For those who may be interested in further reading on Andrew’s last question above, there’s a really interesting book to check out called Sponsorship: The Fine Art Of Corporate Sponsorship/the Corporate Sponsorship Of Fine Art. It’s a collection of interviews with many talented, successful, and oft-sponsored artists on this very subject.
