$25 Infant Incubator: Save Millions of Babies by Voting
I wanted to share my friend's $25 Infant Incubator design (Embrace) with the GOOD community:
http://www.embraceglobal.org/
This Incubator is designed for extreme affordability to help serve the over 20 million babies born premature each year that can not afford $20,000 conventional incubators. Embrace does all the critical stuff for a fraction of the cost.
The basic design of the product is a "sleeping bag". Heat is
provided by a pouch containing phase change material (PCM,) placed in a
safe compartment within the sleeping bag. To heat the PCM, the user
simply pours hot water into compartment, upon indication by a thermal
strip.
This device uses no electricity, has no moving parts, and works for over 4 hours without needing to be reheated.
The product could save millions of babies. The design was awarded the Echoing Green Fellowship and is currently one of 25 Finalists for the American Express Members Project. People can currently vote for it here:
http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/AGAYRZ
If this project makes it to the Top 5, it will share $1.5 million in
funding which will help bring the product to market, starting in rural
India.
Only American Express members can vote, but anyone (like me) can
spread the word.
Please vote and pass along:

Thanks!
