$500 Facebook Gift

What is going on??? In this economy, why has facebook created a $500 facebook gift?  It is an admittedly ugly multicolored rose.



$500!?!?  Does this benefit charity?  If so, there is no explanation on facebook.  All it says is "Rare Rose".  Well, what I think is truly rare is the idea that anyone is this stupid.  By reading this blog, you have essentially received for free a $500 gift - but not quite, as it isn't on your facebook page.  I mean absolutely no copyright infringement by this post, I simply wish to know why this gift exists.  Why why why why why?  Please let me know, as I am perplexed.
