Blanketing Cities With Wi-Fi
Fon, a wireless router manufacturer, is trying to blanket citieswith free Wi-Fi. The company released the SIMPL at Mobile WorldCongress this week, and according to Engadget, they are targeting cellphone providers.
Why? Because mobile companies are terrifiedthat bandwidth usage is going to reach a bottleneck - and when thathappens, their customers won't be happy.
Fon hopes to enticethose companies to smother major networks with free wi-fi using itsSIMPL, thus averting a customer rebellion.
What do you think? Icould care less whether I'm using a 3G network or free wi-fi. All Iwant is a consistent signal and high-speed access. But I would gladlyuse the wi-fi if it were available.
