Brazil Plans to Count Every Tree in the Amazon

Over the next four years, Brazil plans to count every tree in the Amazon region—well, almost every tree. Teams will cover over 3 million square miles of land, sampling 20,000 points, in the most complete inventory of the rainforest since the 1970s. Brazil has worked hard to massively slow deforestation, with nearly 80 percent fewer trees cut today than in 2004.
