'Broke' Chicago Closed 50 Schools, Dropped $100 Million in Taxpayer Money on a Private College Sports Stadium
Earlier this month when Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his appointed school board shuttered 50 schools, the largest mass school closing in U.S. history, they said they had no choice because the city's broke. Apparently, Chicago's not too broke to funnel $100 million in taxpayer money to private DePaul University so they can build a sports arena for their terrible (7-83) men's basketball team in downtown Chicago. Priorities, priorities. Does Emanuel really believe this is what's best for kids?
