Coming Soon: An Alternative Banking Group Handbook?

Wouldn't it be great if we could all understand the banking system?

The Alternative Banking Group, the Occupy folks with real Wall Street experience who adopted the task of describing and advocating real financial change, may be up to something that could help the rest of us better understand the changes they want and why they want them. A story in the Financial Times alluded to their contact with a similar group in London (registration required). That group, Occupy Economics, has published a handbook explaining relevant English economic topics in layman's terms. But the U.S. might get one, too:

It was only a couple of weeks ago that the respective groups in London and New York connected, when the Alternative Banking Group decided it wanted to do a “handbook” too, and it came to its attention that Occupy Economics had done one.

The aim with the handbooks is to inform. “At this point, it is really a moral debate, but you need to understand the technicalities to be part of it,” Ms O’Neil told the FT.

That's drastically more exciting than the (admittedly very cool) deck of cards that Alternative Banking produced in collaboration with artists—and that kind of interest and education effort is the stuff that informs recent excitement about and praise of Occupy.
