Whether it be for a few hours, a day, or the week you're away on vacation, just turn them off. As more and more of my time is being consumed through online research and typing my papers up as finals close in, I'm beginning to feel disconnected from the people around me and as if my devices are becoming an extension of myself. Even though we've become so used to the constant security blanket of connectedness that technology promises us, sometimes we just need to step back and take some time to slow down and engage with the world beyond our screens. Sometimes the pace of the digital realm seems to supersede the natural cycle of time and we can get a little overwhelmed. So tonight, an hour before bed, instead of spending my last waking minutes while I'm barely conscious Googling words to make sure I used them correctly, I'll write them down on a piece of paper and make sure to tackle them first thing in the morning.
