Decline in Intimate Partner Violence Bolsters Support for Violence Against Women Act

A new Department of Justice report showing steeply declining rates of intimate partner violence in the United States may indicate that the Violence Against Women Act is working, and should be renewed. The study shows a 64% decline in cases such as rape, sexual assault, and robbery among intimate partners from 1993 to 2010. Advocates worry that the law, enacted in 1994, will be allowed to expire by the end of this year.
