Designing a Brighter LED Light, Inspired by Fireflies

Scientists have designed an LED light that's 55 percent brighter, using the anatomy of a firefly as inspiration. Fireflies have a pattern of sharp scales that amplify the light they emit, and the new LED light is built in a similar way.
