Egyptian Human Rights Advocates Fight to Make Domestic Violence a Crime

In Egypt, domestic violence is not a crime. Advocacy groups that were gaining ground under the Mubarak regime must now regroup to establish a law protecting women from family violence. Abuse counselor Amani Khalil is optimistic. “In the last 15 years, there is more talk about family violence,” says Khalil. “People have begun to be open-minded about rejecting it."
