Electricity flows from ocean turbine to grid for first time in western hemisphere
In a move that will reverberate around the globe, a small project in Maine successfully launched a 180-kilowatt tidal turbine generator this afternoon. This is the first time in North or South America that electricity has been generated by the power of the ocean tides. Assuming the prolonged success of this project, this tidal energy farm will grow to generate 5 megawatts—powering 2,500 homes with minimal environmental impact. Go Maine!
