Even Better Sweater Weather: Weaving Fabric From Solar Cells

Scientists at Penn State have developed a silicon-based optical fiber that can work like a solar cell. These threads are thinner than human hairs, but they can convert solar radiation into direct-current electricity. Plus, they’re flexible—so while normal solar panels only get direct sunlight for a few minutes a day, solar fabrics can produce energy as long as there's light.
