F.T.C. Issues Guidelines for ‘Eco-Friendly’ Labels

The revised “Green Guides” help marketers ensure that "eco" attributes claimed of their products are truthful & non-deceptive. IE: For a a "biodegradable" product must “completely break down & return to nature” within one year, & calling a product green because it's made with recycled content could be deceptive if the environmental costs of using the recycled material exceed the benefits of using it. Terms "natural" & "sustainable" still have no regulatory definition.
