First meeting for the "Create, Don't Hate" billboard project
Seven designers/design studios connected with seven youth in a speed-dating session to getting to know each other, fast. Five (or so) minutes per person. It went fast and we were able to make the pairings of Designer/Student soon after. The event was held at p:ear in downtown.I'd have to say that, both groups were a little tentative at first but everyone loosened up and had a good time finding out about each other's work. Maybe in the future we won't do it as a speed dating type thing. I thought it would be a fun way to get to know one another but it can feel like high school if you want to be with someone else and they thing you didn't pick them. I guess it all depends (like most things) on how it is delivered. Chalk that up to experience. We push everyone a little outside of their comfort zones as a rule during any re:active program and that's one of the reasons that makes it memorable in the end.The designers involved come from:Cary Design Group – Laura CaryDitroen – DardiMakelike – Mary & TopherNike – Courtney ClinganObsessive Consumption – Kate BingamanPlazm – Josh BergerPopArt – Dave SeldenWe are planning on having the billboards created by the end of the year and hung around town in Spring ‘10.Check back for more.
