I used to maintain a healthy fear of wild mushrooms, a phobia shared by most people I meet. The consensus is that eating fungi from the ground can kill a person in minutes, if not at the very least ruin their day. For me, that opinion changed when I had a chance encounter with an elderly Lithuanian while taking a leisurely hike through the forest. Now, I can sauté my fear in extra virgin olive oil and pinch of salt. And it is delicious.
