GOOD 100: Meet Christina Xu, Supporting Creativity for Meaningful Change

Christina Xu created the Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences in 2009 to support innovative ideas in technology, social change, and the arts

Christina Xu created the Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences in 2009 to support innovative ideas in technology, social change, and the arts with project grants of $1,000 awarded each month. Launched in Boston, the foundation now boasts 54 chapters in 11 countries, with more than 312 projects funded.

Have an awesome idea? Xu’s initiative—which has been called “a micro-genius grant for flashes of micro-brilliance”—is constantly looking for creative people that want to make meaningful change in the world.

As for this year, Xu says she’s searching for something awesome to do. “I think much of this year will be about consolidating and wrapping up projects for me after a super exciting year last year,” Xu says. “In other words, there's no One Big Crazy Thing that I'm doing this year of note.”

However, 2013 will see Xu continuing the ever-present project of growing the Awesome Foundation. She hopes to see people who are interested to start new chapters in their own cities, for creative awesome people to send in good quality applications, for companies to help the foundation’s various chapters sponsor their events, and for local media to help promote the foundation’s efforts.
