Harrowing Video from Inside the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami
A 8.9-magnitude earthquake just off the coast of Japan Friday morning has sent a massive tsunami across that nation and triggered tsunami concerns in places a farflung as Russia, Hawaii, and California. A tsunami did reach Hawaii, but the state expects to suffer no real damage from the rising waves, and is operating normally (planes were leaving the Honolulu airport hours ago, for instance).
Officials are currently closing beaches in California due to tsunami warnings.
Though sketchy, the details on the death toll in Japan currently say at least several hundred to thousands were killed in the quake and subsequent deluge. These chilling videos seem to confirm the validity of those numbers.
We'll be posting a comprehensive how-to-help guide soon, but, in the meantime, here are two ways you can help.
