Sustainability is not a common term in the headgear industry. Most hats and caps are made of acrylic/wool blends that human hands cannot tell apart from touching. In fact, research shows that acrylic has been linked to some skin cancers, is environmentally unsafe, holds bacteria, and do very little to manage temperature around the head. In addition, the sweatband on that same cap accumulates dirt and bacteria over a period of time, which can lead to forehead acne. Research also shows that most people spend $25-$95 on a cap that tends to lose its shape, color, and style after one wash.
Nearly all cap companies choose quantity over quality, leading consumers to purchase more hats and caps that are environmentally unfriendly. As a result, millions of faded dirty caps ultimately end up in local landfills and contribute to impeding the growth of our Eco-system. My Own Crown’s®, mission is to resurrect headgear. Their products are Eco-friendly, bacteria free, UV protected, and durable.
