Here's how to turn an old washing machine drum (available cheap at used appliance stores) into a fancy-looking firepit for your backyard. The holes in the washing machine drum let oxygen flow into the fire and make the firepit glow. If I had a yard (and tools, and any sort of mechanical skill), I'd try it.
