GoFundMe Page Raises Thousands For Homeless Hero

He saved countless lives

The September 17th bombings in New York City and New Jersey could have been a lot worse if not for the work of two men, Lee Parker and Ivan White of Elizabeth, New Jersey. “We were walking down the street to get some cigarettes and Lee was saying how he needed a backpack,” White says. “And, lo and behold, on top of the garbage can there was a backpack.” Parker took the backpack across the street, opened it up, and found a bomb packed inside. So two men took the backpack to an isolated area and immediately called the police.

Parker is homeless and White lives on a fixed income so Donald Conclaves set up a GoFundMe page to give back to these two vigilant men. The campaign had an initial goal of $10,000 with the money being divided equally between between White, Parker, and the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless which has already found Lee an apartment. But in just seven days, the campaign has raised over three times its initial goal. “Had it not been for these heroes, Elizabeth NJ would have experienced a devastating terrorist attack,” the GoFundMe page says. “Thanks to Ivan White and Lee Parker, that explosion did not happen. We owe them a debt of gratitude.”

Parker had a job interview scheduled on the day they found the bomb, but missed his opportunity because he was busy answering questions from law enforcement. So a local food company in Elizabeth graciously reached out to this local hero with a job opportunity. But don’t call Parker a hero to his face, he’ll only deny it. “Hero? Nah, I won’t go that far,” Parker told WABC, saying he was “just doing the right thing.”
