How the Dutch got their bicycle paths

When everybody bikes, there is no "us vs. them" antagonism between cyclists and drivers. The broad consensus makes it easier to spend funds on the infrastructure; and in the long run, it saves everybody money: through energy independence, reduced pollution, and better health.
