Once upon a time, I vented my hot-blooded geek rage on Microsoft, "They're an evil monopoly bent on ruining my day with a talking paperclip!" Now, several years and several monopolies later, I have more perspective about the business world. One of the startling facts slapping me in the face with perspective is this: Apple, the once down-and-out computer company, is now so big that one of their many subdivisions—the iPhone business—is bigger than the industry's former unbeatable giant, Microsoft.
