In medical first, a baby is cured of HIV
Pretty amazing, a baby in rural Mississippi was treated aggressively with antiretroviral drugs and has been deemed cured. It remains to be seen whether this will work with other babies, but very promising.
The UN says 330,000 babies were born infected with HIV in 2011. This is a big deal not just in helping these newborns have a shot at life, but also as a proof point that HIV can be cured.
Go humans!
