In Praise of the Hashtag: Re-Thinking Contemporary and Emerging Communication

Even if re-conceiving the hashtag as a novel form of micro-poetry seems like too much of a stretch, there's certainly something to be said for actively seeking some distance from our entrenched (dare I say, antiquated) approach to language and communication. Communication technology has changed drastically in the last decades and the digital medium become such an integral part of our quotidien experiences, but have we really stopped to analyze and conceptualize the changes they have wrought?
