Journalist creates open source solution to extract data from PDFs

Open source software is about repurposing applications of all sorts for a specific need, to make something new happen. And the philosophy behind it is that this ability to reuse and modify code should be the norm -- thus, driving and encouraging ingenuity. In this post, a group of local journalists create a program that does what they need it to, and open source it so all can use it for free.
