LONG BETS... a way to foster better long-term thinking

Long Bets was started in 2003 as a project of The Long Now Foundation which is a 501(c)(3) public education nonprofit foundation, based in California.The website was funded through grants made by Jeff Bezos.Two on-going bets include:

• By 2030 commercial passengers will routinely fly in pilotless planes - Stakes: $2000 (predicted by Craig Mundie / challenged by Eric Schmidt)
• Over a ten year period commencing on January 1, 2008, and ending on December 31, 2017, the S&P 500 will outperform a portfolio of funds of hedge funds, when performance is measured on a basis net of fees, costs and expenses - Stakes: $1,000,000 (predicted by Warren Buffett / challenged by Protege Partners LLC)
