Make Your Own Meals: Use a Family Recipe #30DaysofGOOD
Things are easier said than done, or so the old adage goes, and we couldn't agree more. That's why we do The GOOD 30-Day Challenge (#30DaysofGOOD), a monthly attempt to live better. Our challenge for June? Make your own meals.
Every Christmas when I was a kid, my family took a break from opening gifts to eat the walnut-studded sour cream coffee cake that my mom always baked. To this day, Christmas is nothing to me without that dessert. So, the first year that I didn’t go home for the holidays, I had Mom transcribe her yellowed recipe card and send it to me over email. It’s a recipe I plan on keeping in the fam.
It doesn’t matter if you were raised on Croque Monsieur or Chef Boyardee, everyone has a dish they remember fondly from childhood. It might be something that reminds you of your parents or grandparents. Or maybe it brings back the freedom of being a kid. Food memories are powerful.
Today’s challenge is a great way to connect with your past. Pick a favorite dish from your childhood, or an old family recipe that’s been passed down for ages. Get the recipe and follow it to the letter. Share the result here so your dad’s meatloaf can be famous!
There’s the distinct possibility that the dish won’t taste quite as good as you remember, of course. But your family will love you just for asking for the recipe.
We're giving away $500 for you to unite your community and "Make More Meals" from locally-sourced foods. Participate in our Share a GOOD Recipe challenge.
