Multidrug-Resistance Tuberculosis: No Promises, By Ron Haviv
Multi-Drug Resistant TB (MDR-TB) develops when TB patients were treated incompletely or incorrectly and it does not respond to customary first-line TB drugs. With case numbers growing at an unprecedented clip, and with the highly contagious disease transmitting from person to person in some cases—MDR-TB is now a legitimate public health crisis. Drug development for these patients has been extremely slow and children with MDR-TB are the most neglected.
