Nearly Half of All Food Is Thrown Away: 2 Billion Tonnes Every Year
A new study reports that every year, around the world, 2 billion tonnes of food is thrown out—around half of all that's grown. This isn't so much a landfill issue as an energy problem: we spend incredible amounts of energy growing and transporting food, leading to climate change and other environmental (and social issues). We need better solutions for this. This is partly a design problem. How can a designer help me remember to use the bunch of kale in my fridge before it goes bad?
