The Hobbit, and Tolkien's LOTR saga in general, has much to do with space exploration. They both begin in a quaint little place, whose inhabitants consider the alpha and omega of the universe. They both venture into the unknown. They both involve extraordinary discovery that leads to groundbreaking change. They both have their main characters return home, only to leave again to finish the job they started. The world is not the same after they are done. It is much larger, and so are they.
