Octuplets? No thank-lets.
Call me cynical...
...or maybe downright stupid; but I am so sick of people berating Nadya Suleman for her choice to have the octuplets. If she had done selective fetus reduction, people would call her a baby killer. Since she had them all, people call her irresponsible.
And maybe she is irresponsible - but she really seems to genuinely want these children. Do I agree with that? Absolutely not. But the fact of the matter is, you could see 80 kids in a day at a grocery store that are not loved or wanted, with parents who are receiving far more than the $500 in foodstamps that Ms. Suleman is reportedly receiving.
The fact of the matter is, these kids are here - so unless people plan on swooping in and snatching them away from her, perhaps we should either help her out, or leave her be. These children someday are going to grow up - what kind of psychological impact would it have for them to see footage of people speaking to their mother this way, or speaking about them in the manner that people have chosen to do so?
They are going to have a hard enough life, with each having 13 siblings, a single mom, and the fame of being the longest surviving octuplets. Perhaps we could make it easier for not criticizing their very existence - or maybe even helping things along the way. I am not calling for people to help this woman, or pray for her, or curse her - I am simply saying if you are so incapably enthralled by this subject, do something positive with that energy.
If not, then the next time someone tries to talk about these babies, or a news caster tries to pitch a story on the subject, simply say, "Octuplets? No thank-lets!" Or just "No, thank you." Whichever you prefer.
But maybe that's just me.
