On World Polio Day, Push to Eradicate the Disease Forever

Today is World Polio Day, which marks the birthday of Jonas Salk, the inventor of the polio vaccine. Since Salk's breakthrough discovery in 1955, polio diagnoses around the world have decreased by 99 percent. That's an impressive statistic, but it's not good enough.

The Gates Foundation has donated $355 million to finish the job, with a goal of raising an additional $200 million from people around the world. GOOD worked with Gates to create this video in an effort to inspire people to donate to the cause and push world leaders to do their part to eliminate polio once and for all.

It's hard to overstate the magnitude of entirely eradicating a disease—polio would be only the second to disappear. So get involved: Make a donation or sign a petition calling on global leaders to fully fund the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. We're almost there.
