Every spring, The Great Western Alpaca Show
brings breeders, buyers, sellers, and just plain enthusiasts of the noble beast that is the alpaca to the National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado. Somewhere between juried-stock-show and craft fair, the Show sees alpaca wool ponchos, plush alpaca-wool-stuffed-alpaca toys, alpaca art, and alpacas themselves up for sale. Last year, there were 1,200 entries from 29 states. It's a pretty incredible affair."I think that any convention is slightly awkward for outsiders-and that is part of the appeal, for me," says the photographer Ross Evertson
, who visited the 2007 show
and produced these remarkable images. "Whether it is Comic-Con or alpacas, some people are going to be very dedicated to the life style, so to speak, and for most others it is bizarre and intriguing spectacle. It results in an interesting tension of warmth and skepticism between both groups."-Are you a photographer with a project you would like to share with the GOOD community?
