Polar umbrella could protect and regenerate ice caps

American architect Derek Pirozzi has been awarded first place in this year’s eVolo Skyscraper Competition for his ‘Polar Umbrella’ concept design. The proposal aims to rebuild the Arctic layers, cooling down the Earth’s surface by reducing heat gain in vulnerable regions of the Arctic. The umbrella-shaped, buoyant structures could be strategically located in the most affected areas. The skyscraper would enable research in the Arctic thanks to its NOAA.
