Politically Opinionated Freelancers = Bad?
Hello community. I've been having a bit of an internal conflict for some time now, attempting to reconcile my political life with the rest of my life, particularly my career.
Tonight a friend advised me that I don't post information on my politics, even relevant ones, on my graphic design freelancer portfolio. I understand that this may turn some people off, although I wonder if I'd want to work with those people anyway. At the same time, I don't really have much liberty to chose these days, as I'm just starting out.
From some research I've done this evening I can see that Corporate Social Responsibility is a big topic. I also watched some great videos about socially responsible businesses here on GOOD today, but I find myself wondering if there is any place for a socially responsible freelancer. Those of us who aren't desperate can choose our own projects, but unlike businesses when we say "I think sexism in advertising is bad", we're speaking now for two parties - ourselves and our clients.
I think it's great that GOOD has found a way to do something good for the world, and in a very unique way. But as a freelancer, do you guys think I have that option? And do you think I should stand up for what I believe in at the risk of turning some people off, or do you think I should separate career and activism?
