As a writer and grammar geek, E.B. White's "The Elements of Style" (co-written with William Strunk Jr.) is a book I have probably opened more than any other. And the New Yorker in me loves his essay, "Here is New York." But my favorite White book has to be "Charlotte's Web" (I still have my original copy with a gold star pasted inside and a note in my rough script that reads, "this is a fantastic book!"). This excerpt is a great reminder of its timeless beauty—and great to read on his birthday.
