Shouldn't K-12 schools help build students coding skills?

According to this article, coding jobs are one of the fastest growing and well paid jobs. If that's the case, shouldn't our K-12 schools incorporate learning how to code into their curriculum? Estonia (a tiny Eastern European country) has efforts underway to teach every 6 year old in school. The US already has the tools to do the same -- check out Scratch at MIT's Lifelong Kindergarten (they are now developing a Scratch program for preschoolers!).
